It takes 18 days for an international move from the port of London Gateway to the port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago. You should also consider the time it takes to collect, pack and get your items through customs clearance.

The main ports for Trinidad and Tobago include the Port of Spain, located on Trinidad Island, and the Port of Scarborough, located on Tobago Island. On arrival, all goods will have to undergo customs clearance which will be handled with the help of our agents. Once cleared you can collect directly from our warehouse or we can arrange onward delivery to most destinations, including Chaguanas, Mon Repos, San Fernando, Port of Spain, Rio Claro, Arima, Marabella, Laventille, Point Fortin, Tunapuna and more.

Returning citizens who have lived abroad for more than 5 years and expats who are relocating to Trinidad and Tobago may import used personal items and household goods for free. You must provide evidence of residency status and proof that these items have been used for at least 1 year. Customs duties can be as much as 20% on certain items and you will have to pay 12.5% VAT on new items. You can work out customs duties by working out the total value of the items, plus shipping and insurance costs.

You will need to gather the necessary documents for customs for your move to Trinidad and Tobago. We will need these to get you moved safely and efficiently. Our expert team will help you gather these documents. We will need you to provide us with the following:

  • Proof of residency or new resident permit
  • A Bill of Lading which is issued by 1st Move International and highlights the contents of the shipment

UK visitors do not need to apply for a visa if they are staying for less than 90 days. Any visits longer than this require a relevant visa. You can apply for a work or study visa or temporary or permanent residence based on your requirements.

Work Permit/Visa

Before getting a Work Visa, you must apply for a Work Permit. You must first have a job offer from an employer in Trinidad and Tobago and they must apply for the permit on your behalf. You can either get a short-term work permit for up to 1 year or a long-term permit for over a year.

Temporary residence visa

If you want to live in Trinidad and Tobago for a long period but don’t intend to work or study, you’ll need to apply for a Temporary Residence Visa. It’s typically used by retirees, long-term visitors or those wishing to stay with family.
